草质藤本。小枝圆柱形，有纵棱纹，无毛。卷须2叉分枝，相隔2节间断与叶对生。叶为鸟足状5小叶，中央小叶长椭圆披针形，长3.5-9厘米，宽1.5-3厘米，顶端渐尖，基部楔形，边缘每侧有5-7个锯齿或细牙齿，侧生小叶卵状椭圆形，长2-5厘米，宽1.5-2.5厘米，顶端急尖或钝，基部楔形或圆形，边缘外侧有5-6个锯齿或细牙齿，上面绿色，下面浅绿色，两面均无毛；侧脉5-7对，网脉不明显，无毛；叶柄长2-4.5厘米，小叶有短柄或几无柄，侧生小叶总柄长0.4-1.5厘米，无毛；托叶早落。花序为复二歧聚伞花序，腋生；花序梗长3-3.5厘米，无毛；花梗长1.5-2.5毫米，无毛，花蕾卵圆形或卵椭圆形，高2-3毫米；萼碟形，全缘或有三角状浅裂，无毛；花瓣4，三角状卵圆形，高1.5-2.5毫米，顶端有小角，外展，疏被乳突状毛；雄蕊4，花药卵圆形，长宽近相等；花盘发达，4浅裂；子房下部与花盘合生，花柱短，基部略粗，柱头微扩大。果实近球形，直径约0.8-1厘米，有种子2-4颗；种子倒卵椭圆形，顶端微凹，基部有短喙，种脐在种子背面下部与种脊无异，种脊突出，两侧表面有横肋突出，腹部中棱脊突出，两侧洼穴呈沟状或倒卵狭椭圆形，从基部向上斜展达种子上部1/3处。花期4-5月，果期7-9月。
产福建、广东。生山谷溪边疏林或山坡灌丛，海拔200-600米。
块茎入药，有清热解毒、祛风化痰的作用。
本种外形与乌蔹莓 C. japonica (Thunb.) Gagnep. 相似，但本种花瓣顶端有突出外展的小角，种子腹部两侧洼穴呈沟状，可以区别。

Leaves pedately 5-foliolate; stipules caducous; petiole 2-4.5 cm; petiolules short or leaflets nearly sessile, petiolules of lateral leaflet complex 0.4-1.5 cm, glabrous; leaflets glabrous, lateral veins 5-7 pairs, veinlets inconspicuous; central leaflet elliptic-lanceolate, 3.5-9 × 1.5-3 cm, base cuneate, margin with 5 or 6 teeth on each side, apex acuminate; lateral leaflets ovate-elliptic, 2-5 × 1.5-2.5 cm, base cuneate or rounded, apex acute or obtuse. Compound dichasium axillary; peduncle 3-3.5 cm, glabrous. Pedicel 1.5-2.5 mm, glabrous. Buds oval or ovoid-elliptic, 2-3 mm. Calyx cupular, glabrous, entire or triangular lobed. Petals triangular-oval, 1.5-2.5 mm, with sparse papillose hairs, corniculate at apex. Anthers oval, nearly as long as wide. Lower part of ovary adnate to disk; style short, slightly enlarged at base.
