植株全体无毛。根状茎短。茎2-3条，直立或渐升，高3-7厘米，不分枝或有1-2分枝，无叶或有1-2叶。基生叶与茎近等长，有长柄，为一回羽状复叶；叶片卵形或狭卵形，在开花时未完全发育，长1.5-2.5厘米，宽1.4-1.8厘米，羽片（1-）2（-3）对，近无柄，斜卵形或宽菱形，掌状深裂，边缘有少数钝齿，顶生羽片扇状菱形；叶柄长1.5-6厘米，基部有鞘。花直径1.1-1.4厘米；萼片5，椭圆形，长3-6毫米，宽1.8-3.5毫米，顶端钝或微尖，基部囊状；花瓣5-7(-9)，白色，粉红色或淡紫色，倒卵状长圆形或宽线形，长5-10毫米，宽1-2.5毫米，顶端圆形，下部橙黄色；雄蕊长约为花瓣之半，花药椭圆形，花丝披针状线形; 心皮8-14。聚合果直径约6毫米；瘦果卵球形，长约2.8毫米，表面皱，宿存花柱短。4月至6月开花。
在我国分布于西藏南部和东部（海拔3800-5600米）、云南西北部（3500米）、四川西部（4500米）、青海东部（3200-4400米）。生高山草地。在尼泊尔、锡金、印度北部也有分布。

Basal leaves as long as stems, not fully expanded at anthesis; petiole 1.5--6 cm, basally sheathed; leaf blade ovate to narrowly ovate, 1.5--2.5 × 1.4--1.8 cm, with (1 or)2(or3) pairs of lateral leaflets; leaflets subsessile, obliquely ovate to rhombic, deeply undulate, margin with obtuse teeth, apically flabellate to rhombic. Stem leaves absent or 1 or 2. Flowers 1.1--1.4 cm in diam. Sepals elliptic, 3--6 × 1.8--3.5 mm, base scrotiform, apex obtuse to acute. Petals 5--7(--9), white, pink or pale purple, obovate-oblong to broadly linear, 5--10 × 1--2.5 mm, apex rounded. Stamens ca. 1/2 as long as petal; filaments lanceolate-linear; anthers ellipsoid. Pistils 8--14. Aggregate fruit ca. 6 mm in diam. Achenes ovoid, ca. 2.8 mm, rugose. Fl. Apr--Jun. 2n = 16*, 32*.
