一年生草本，高30-60厘米。茎直立，多分枝。叶互生，叶柄长1-2厘米；叶片卵状椭圆形，上面被毛，长5-8厘米，宽2-3厘米，顶部渐尖，基部锐尖或近圆形有具柄小腺，边缘锯齿，有小尖头，侧脉5-7对。总花梗长1-1.5厘米，1-3花，其中一花常败育；花柄长2厘米，基生一苞片，苞片长3毫米，宿存，明显，拱圆或贝壳状，顶部有小尖头。花大，黄色，宽达2厘米，长3.5厘米。侧生萼片2枚，圆形宽6-7毫米，干时褐色。旗瓣近圆形，宽1-1.2厘米，在背部中脉的中部有喙状突起。翼瓣具柄，长2.7厘米，基生裂片圆形，宽9厘米，上部裂片宽斧形，大；背耳半圆形，反折，唇瓣深囊状，基部收缩为短而弯曲的距，口部斜升，近锐尖，药大，卵圆形。花丝长约5毫米，扁平。子房直立，棒状。蒴果棒形，长达2-2.5厘米，具3-5枚种子。种子近圆形，直径2毫米，褐黑。
产四川（峨眉山）。生于林缘阴湿处，海拔1800-2800米。
本种与 I. duclouxii Hook. f. 接近，但花少数，1-3枚，侧生萼片较小，叶上面具毛可以区别。

Plants annual, 30-60 cm tall. Stem erect, many branched. Leaves alternate; petiole 1-2 cm; leaf blade ovate-elliptic, 5-8 × 2-3 cm, papery, abaxially hairy, lateral veins 5-7 pairs, base acute or subrounded, glandular, margin serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences 1-3-flowered, one flower often abortive; peduncles 1-1.5 cm. Pedicels ca. 2 cm, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, conchiform or arcuate, ca. 3 mm, apex mucronulate. Flowers yellow, ca. 3.5 cm deep, ca. 2 cm in diam. Lateral sepals 2, brown when dry, orbicular, 6-8 mm in diam. Lower sepal deeply saccate, constricted into a curved, short spur; mouth oblique, acute. Upper petal suborbicular, 1-1.2 cm wide, abaxial midvein rostellate at middle; lateral united petals clawed, ca. 2.7 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular, ca. 9 mm wide; distal lobes broadly dolabriform, large; auricle inflexed, suborbicular. Filaments flattened, ca. 5 mm; anthers ovoid, apex acute. Ovary erect, clavate. Capsule clavate, 2-2.5 cm, 3-5-seeded. Seeds brown-black, suborbicular, ca. 2 mm in diam. Fl. and fr. Aug-Sep.
● Forest understories, shaded moist places; 1800-2800 m. Sichuan (Emei Shan).
This species is closely related to Impatiens duclouxii but differs in having inflorescences 1-3-flowered, lateral sepals smaller, and leaves abaxially hairy.
